My mother was proud to call Virginia her home state, so this is the connection that draws me to this one.
Same paint scheme that was used by Amtrak in '88 when we rode to California.
Had a toy Rio Grande locomotive as a child and also saw the original units when we took Amtrak to the west coast.
I've always liked this scheme, so hope to see it in action. As a consolation prize, would also be happy to see any of the 'original' locomotives CN still utilizes in operation. We saw a GT unit prepping for scrap in Memphis, and also the Woodstock switcher for a great distance away, but still looking for a close up in action.
UPDATE: SIGHTING OF 'ORIGINAL' UNIT 5814 IN FULTON, KY ON 11/28/2020. PARKED IN YARD, DOES NOT COUNT UNTIL WE SEE ONE ON THE MOVE!
